Sunday readings during the season of Lent Even if you haven’t participated before, you are welcome to join one of the adult faith formation groups during the Lenten season to read and reflect on these readings. Sessions are typically held via Zoom on Tuesday evening and Friday morning, and in person on Wednesday morning and Wednesday evening. Email Bill ([email protected]) for more information or to sign up for one of these groups.
We are participating in Project Rice Bowl, a ministry of Catholic Relief Services. Rice Bowls will be available beginning on Ash Wednesday. You are invited to choose one day a week to simplify your meal plan and contribute the difference to your Rice Bowl. Rice Bowls are brought back to church on Holy Thursday. For more information on Rice Bowl and Catholic Relief Services, visit their website: https://www.crsricebowl.org
Sacrament of Reconcilication
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated at Saint Thomas the Apostle each Saturday 4:00 – 4:30 pm in the reconciliation room in the northwest corner of the church. Penitents may choose to celebrate face-to-face or behind a screen. If you are unfamiliar with how to celebrate the Sacrament, don’t worry; the priest will be happy to guide you. To prepare for the Sacrament, we encourage you to thoroughly examine your conscience.
Fasting and Abstinence
Please remember the church’s discipline regarding fasting and abstinence during this season: Abstinence: Catholics who have reached their 14th birthday are to abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays during Lent. Fasting: Catholics who are 18 or older, until their 59th birthday, are to fast on Ash Wednesday & Good Friday. Only one full meal is allowed and two smaller meals may be taken according to one’s needs to maintain strength.
